We have a number of vacancies for junior doctors (CT1 equivalent or above) in Emergency Medicine and also in Paediatrics at the Northern Devon District Hospital (NDDH). These posts are for six months each and start on the 2nd August 2017.
Applications are welcome from suitable doctors wanting a stand-alone post in either Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics, a linked post comprising six months of each or a yearlong post in either specialty. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to express their post preferences prior to interview.
The Northern Devon District Hospital provides a service to a population of 156,000 and to the thousands of visitors the region receives every summer. The department sees approximately 40,000 new patients per year of whom approximately 25% are children.
Emergency Medicine Post The successful applicants will join an enthusiastic team that supports and delivers a modern, comprehensive emergency service. This is a small, friendly department with big ideas and a commitment to improving our service by embracing change and innovation. The junior tier comprises ten doctors on a full shift rota.
Trust doctors work alongside trainees in foundation, ACCS & GPVTS programs and receive the same training opportunities as these doctors. This includes allocation of a clinical supervisor along with study leave with a study budget. We receive excellent feedback from trainees and Trust doctors alike. This is a great opportunity to gain broad clinical experience during a bridging year between foundation and specialty training in a beautiful part of the country.
The ED includes a fully equipped four-bedded resuscitation bay, dedicated paediatric facilities and co-located CT scanner. In 2010 the department established an Emergency Medicine consultant delivered thrombolysis service for acute stroke. In April 2012 the hospital was awarded Trauma Unit status and all major trauma calls are consultant led across all relevant specialties. The hospital has a helipad within the grounds.
