The Trust serves a large population, covering a wide geographical area. Our acute hospital is in Barnstaple, but our community teams are based all across Northern, East and Mid-Devon.
North Devon District Hospital is located in Barnstaple, which is North Devon’s administrative and shopping centre. It is reputed to be the country’s oldest borough and features the 13th century long bridge that spans the river Taw and a famous pannier market as well as modern shopping centres. There are cafes, bistros and restaurants as well as a local cinema and theatre.
North Devon and Torridge
In North Devon and Torridge, we cover historic towns such as Ilfracombe with its stunning coastal scenery; attractive Bideford and the charming nearby villages of Appledore, Instow and Clovelly; the friendly market towns of Holsworthy and Great Torrington as well as South Molton, the gateway to Exmoor.
In the middle of our patch, our teams cover the market town of Tiverton which sits in a delightful setting on the banks of the River Exe, Crediton with its excellent transport links.
Moretonhampstead is on Dartmoor, surrounded by stunning scenery and Okehampton is within a stone’s throw of the moor and all that it offers.
In the East of the county, we have the bustling seaside towns of Exmouth, Seaton, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton as well as the pretty market towns of Axminster, Ottery and Honiton which was once an important centre of lace-making.
Exeter is renowned for its low crime rate, high quality of life and flourishing arts scene, which includes the Royal Albert Memorial Museum – the 2012 Museum of the Year- and the Exeter Phoenix arts centre. With its buzzing city atmosphere it is consistently rated as one of the best places to live in the UK.
