Consultant in Palliative Care

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic consultant to join the team at North Devon District Hospital to support our Palliative Care service and be an active member of local and regional groups to support continued delivery of outstanding services to our patients.

The department has a well-established palliative care service including close working relationships with the local hospice team. An excellent multi-disciplinary team service is incorporated into both acute and community services and is supported robustly through the clinical nurse specialist teams across these areas.  The Trust prides itself on its multidisciplinary approach from front door and on to support in the community.

We are also exploring opportunities to further link in with North Devon Hospice to further develop services and provide a wider pool of expertise.

The post will work closely with the Consultant based at the Hospice as well as the consultant teams based at Northern Devon Healthcare Trust. The post holder will be supported daily and work closely with the Palliative Care nursing team comprising of 1.6WTE staff.

A generous, negotiable relocation expenses package is available to the successful candidate.

The successful candidates will be on 6 PA work plans. The successful applicant will be joining a friendly team of professionals and will be encouraged to take a role in developing and implementing the service.

These posts will be based at the North Devon District Hospital, which provides a service to a population of 160,000. This is expected to expand towards 200,000 over the next five to ten years. The Trust has links with the School of Postgraduate Medicine in Exeter and is an integral part of the Peninsula Medical School. Northern Devon Healthcare Trust is based in fantastic surroundings, close to a range of local activities including Exmoor National Park and also award winning beaches.

Ideally the post holder will entry on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine or interview within 6 months of CCST/CCT date; along with membership of Royal College of Physicians and should be fully registered with the GMC with licence to practice.
