Volunteer Dementia Companion

Having someone read the newspaper or share a favourite book can make such a difference.  Maybe you could play a game of cards or dominoes, or even tackle a jigsaw puzzle together. When was the last time you picked up your knitting needles … or pencils and paints? These are great activities to share. Or just having a good old natter can really bring a smile to someone’s face…and might lead them on a lovely trip down memory lane!

YOU can make such a difference to our patients’ health and wellbeing by volunteering today as part of our team on Capener Ward!

‘Friends and Family Test’ feedback volunteer

Location: North Devon District Hospital

Originally introduced in April 2013, the NHS ‘Friends and Family Test’ is a national initiative enabling patients to give immediate feedback on the care they have received.

After discharge, patients have the opportunity to tell us whether they would recommend the care provided to their friends and family. The feedback we receive is used to continually improve the services we provide.

As a ‘Friends and Family Test’ feedback volunteer you will be involved in engaging patients in the outpatient waiting areas and issuing ‘Friend and Family Test’ feedback cards to those who express an interest in taking part.

Our fundraising team needs your help

Our current fundraising drive for the chemotherapy appeal is progressing well and becoming more popular and we need more volunteers to help us. There are many ways you can support fundraising from helping at charity events, collecting and delivering charity collection boxes, speaking at events, putting up posters, or even marshalling at larger events. Whoever you are and whatever you fancy, we’ve got something to suit everybody! We are always looking for more volunteers to help us.

Volunteer Mealtime Companion

Imagine the difference it makes to our patients when they have someone to sit and chat to them over a meal.  It makes it much more of a sociable event, and therefore they feel much more like eating and drinking!  Wouldn’t you?

Library Trolley Volunteer

When you’re in hospital, time can seem never-ending!  Having someone bring a trolley full of lovely books for you to choose from can really brighten the day! Our volunteers load the trolley with a selection of books from the patient library, which they then take to the wards where they help patients choose a suitable book.

What a great way to spend an afternoon AND make a hugely positive difference to our patients!

Meet and Greet Volunteer

Arriving in the main entrance of our busy hospital can be quite a daunting experience!  How lovely it is when someone is there on hand to help you find your way to where you need to be!  That’s exactly what our Meet and Greet Volunteers are here to do, as well as answering the thousands of enquiries received at the main reception desk each week.

This is a great opportunity to help and chat to lots of new people, and to really make a positive impact  on our whole patient experience.

Readers panel

The Readers Panel are a fantastic group of volunteers who review our new patient information leaflets before they are finalised and published.

They help us ensure that the information in our leaflets is clear and adresses the questions and concerns  that  a patient may have about a new drug, intervention, treatment or service.

We are always recruiting for new members of the panel.
