Health and wellbeing

Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust recognises the importance of staff health and wellbeing. Staff are at their best when they have a positive physical, social and mental state. We are here to support staff to do this and to help when things go wrong or provide extra support when it’s needed.

The Occupational Health Team are on hand to give immunisations and vaccines, offer sickness absence support and return to work programmes, provide counselling services, health assessments and health surveillance.

We also have a dedicated staff physiotherapy service. If staff find themselves in need of physiotherapy, a management referral to the team can be made and staff will be seen at, or near their work place within a couple of weeks and receive follow up care and advice.

Health and Wellbeing campaigns are promoted to staff via the staff intranet site and via our network of Workplace Health and Wellbeing Champions across the Trust. Mini health check days also take place throughout the year to enable staff to come along and speak to the OH team, staff physiotherapist and other health professionals as well as getting their blood pressure checked and their BMI measured.

Physical activity is also promoted and encouraged with after work yoga and exercise classes available to staff at various Trust sites at affordable rates. For shift workers we promote local class discounts so they are able to access those services on their days off.

Extra support can be provided by the HR team on specific work issues.
