Nurses from overseas (transition nurse)

We welcome nurses from overseas and will support you through your OSCE examination process to gain UK registration with the NMC.

We have a dedicated overseas nursing lead that will support you to pass your exam. We offer a blended learning approach which means you will have one to one support, dedicated study time, learn alongside your peers and consolidate your skills on the ward. The programme will fully prepare you to undertake the NMC OSCE and prepare you for employment as a Band 5 Registered Nurse in a range of clinical areas across the Hospital.

Our overseas nursing programme includes:

  • a thorough theoretical and practical induction to Northern Devon healthcare Trust and your clinical area
  • a period of supervised practice in your clinical area, supported by a mentor, supplemented with study time release for OSCE preparation sessions – these practical sessions are based on the NMC competencies that you will be tested against at the testing centre
  • a period of Preceptorship following your registration with the NMC
  • Trust funding for your first and second OSCE attempt.

During the programme you will be paid as a Band 3 Transition Nurse. You will use your nursing skills and knowledge gained overseas in a range of clinical nursing duties and training under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Kwanele Hlabano-Moyo

Band 4 Transition Nurse

Kwanele Hlabano-MoyoI am a Zimbabwean trained nurse and I have been practising for three years now. I found myself looking for an opportunity to work with North Devon District Hospital because I believe it is there that I will get an opportunity to learn and put into practice current nursing trends that actually work. My husband works at the Hospital and told me that the teams are all very friendly and take positive steps in helping you to develop your career. I have had the pleasure of being offered a role as a Transition Nurse which I am very happy to accept. This role will support my transition to a registered nurse and will provide me with training and development in order to pass my OSCE exams. I know that I will be well supported through this process.

I look forward to working with a team which I know has a good reputation and will help me blossom in my career.
